Cycleops PowerTap G3 alloy wheel

Hi
Any one have any feedback on the PowerTap G3 wheel set. I was looking at the alloy set that use the Velocity A23 rim?

    When a hub weighs a pound, I don't see the point of going for a light rim, it will always be a heavy wheel. I would go for a solid training rim with 32 holes (unless your hub has less).

    However, they are a bit expensive. The PT costs around 620, which means you pay 500 pounds for the rest, which is way too much. That wheelset (or analogous) can be built for 900 pounds

    Doesn't a light rim make more sense then? What if the OP wants to race and train with the wheel? Would you recommend that he buy a steel frame to go with his heavy wheel?

    Yep absolutely, 100 quid for 2 rims, 620 for the rear hub, 50 for the front hub (at most - available for something like 50 USD in the US, don't know any UK suppliers, I'd want something better anyway), 80 for the spokes, which leaves 50 quid for the labour.

    I think they a confusing it with the 2012 Pro. I got my 2012 Pro wheelset for 750, they are fantastic, love the velocity rims!
    Plenty stiff enough for me (no brake rub at over 1000w out of the saddle) pretty light where you need it but the ride is sublime, absolutely sublime.
    The bearings feel good (remains to be seen how long for though!) much happier with them than my SL+ 32h Open Pro.

    Yes, I am confusing it with the conventional and a bit heavier PT hub from Cycleops, I wasn't aware of this lighter G3 option. Does it do anything else or is it just lighter?

    Flanges are wider on the G3 compared to the 2012 Pro.

    The G3 also gets through a set of batteries every few hours at the moment as well (firmware update expected soon to fix it I believe).

    They're smaller and look more like a normal hub and less like a hub gear - I think I saw one of the lesser Pro teams using them, could have been at the Paris-Nice.

    But the 2012 PRO has already massive flanges...... so if you pair it with 80 mm carbon rims, you can use toothpicks as spokes...

    Wider apart not wider as in closer to the rim.
