I ran some maxxis crossmarks last year and I was really impressed with them.
They might not look it but they deliver plenty of grip.0 -

Panaracer Razer XC 2.1 - fast, great grip and work well for meConstantly trying to upgrade my parts. It is a long road ahead as things are so expensive for little gain. n+1 is always the principle in my mind.0

Just FYI, the reason I like the SB8 over the other options here, (I have tried the schwalbes) is because in the summer, IMHO ultimately the amount of runner in contact with the ground defines broadly the level of grip you have, and the SB8 gets the most rubber on the ground all the time. The small blocks mean that it doesn't squirm under load, and so its consistent too. Not the lightest, but a good volume and well made.A Flock of Birds

Left field option is Michelin Dry Mountains, they are incredably fast rolling (when in a group, on downhills I often have to brake to stay with them), but they really are only for dry conditions as they clog quickly in wet mud although cope fine with a surface 'slime'.Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0
