wheel/bike upgrade choices

Hi guys, Purchased a specialized camber comp last year, and it's done me great. Looking to get onto an upgrade and have been recommended to go in at wheels for the first change, as it will give the best change to my ride.
I have been directed towards the Mavic Crosstrails:

Which seem great, but quite pricey (im not anywhere close to a top level rider, but i do enjoy a good weekend on the trails). I always said when i upgraded i would do it right, and get good parts, but is this overkill for my ability, is there any other wheelsets out there which are as good for less? And more to the point, if any of you dont think wheels is the most important thing to upgrade, what is?
Thanks

my back has a buckle in it, nothing drastic but it's not fixable. Those do look like some great wheels0

Equally good & £20 cheaper http://superstar.tibolts.co.uk/product_ ... cts_id=501
With either XC717 rims for superlight XC wheels or XM719 for slightly tougher but still fairly light trail wheels.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350 -
I rate the Hope wheelsets, esp with the Mavic 721 rims0

Had it in the shop, it's been worked on, but will never be back to its original state, it isnt a huge problem, more annoying than anything0 -

Great advice, thankyou mate0 -
The Hope Hoops wheelsets are excellent. Personal faves (being 6'4" and 98kg) for both my hardtail and full susser are the Pro 2 hub on Mavic EN521 or Stans Flows. Little to choose between either rim. Great wheelsets, super strong, reliable, bombproof etc.Trail fun - Transition Bandit
