Good Afternoon All,
I need some brake pads, for standard V brakes on a specilized sirrus.
does anybody have any advice when buying pads? are cheap pads good? or is it best to steer clear and just pay out for some. I commute 5 days a week, 6 miles each way. so braking is pretty important.
are these worth the money?

cheers!

if your current pads are a cartridge type (can remove the brake material leaving holder bolted on) then these are about as good as it gets:

I run salmons on the front and the dual compound salmon/black on the rear, stopping power in the wet is massively improved over standard, and dry performance is same or slightly better.
If you don't have the a cartridge then I highly recommend getting it to make future changes easier/cheaper. alternatively kool stop also do an all in one pad:

Those pads from Decathlon would be cheap if they were £6. These durable pads are the ones to buy: http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Mode ... elID=558210

Thanks all for you suggestions.
I went for something similar to what saladdays has suggested and gone for the below

must say they are pretty good. 1 finger braking and I'm over the bars lol.
My only issue now is that my front squeels when I brake, any suggestions to fix this?0 -
I upgraded to cartridge type and use these:

I've had the same pads on for about a year now ~6k miles and there's 1/3 on the front and over 1/2 left at the back.
Mounted on these:

btw, they'd be well worth picking up, wont stop it squealing, about as good as you can get without discs.
I find brake squeal and a locked rear tyre a great alternative to a bell.I used to just ride my bike to work but now I find myself going out looking for bigger and bigger hills.0 -

Thanks Godders1
Will definitely be using this trick next time I replace my pads:

I have used cheap V pads for years with no problems and no loss of braking performance. Buy mine in my local Asda, branded as Bell for £1.49 a pair. The other cheap thing I buy is Asda chains. About £3.50 I think. Use the 1/8 one for my fixed ans the 3/32 for my 24 speed. Again work just as good as anything else. Thats all though all the other stuff like cables look rubbish.0

I don't remember seeing bike stuff in my local Asda so maybe i should have a better look round next time i go in :? .You must treat others with respect in order to be respected ..
