Interesting attempted theft

A Firend nearly had his wifes bike knicked, this was interesting as
1/ It's a horrid old Apollo hybrid worth at most £50 he uses for 2 miles to the station and back - not worth knicking
2/ He D-locked it to railing, so fairly secure
3/ It appears they attached a tow rope to the D-lock to try and break it, the railing were bowed out about 12" (they are pretty sturdy to look at!) and the front wheel wrecked where the bike twisted onto it, the D-lock was bent to buggery but had held up.

Have fun out there!

Worth nicking to some scrote, unless it was for shit'n'giggles.
You mention station & tow-rope - any CCTV footage? Can't help thinking that they've probably caused more than the value of the bike in damage to the transmission of the vehicle used.

Most scrotes knicking bikes don't have cars!
There is some CCTV apparently, but the camera nearest the attempted theft was facing the wrong way, the one that saw it is so far away they could only just make out th colour, not even make and model!

Why did he try to have his wife's bike nicked?
What do you mean you think 64cm is a big frame?

"A friend nearly had his wifes bike nicked".

I just wondered why he considered it at all. <comedydrumrollhere>.

Did read a thread on Singletrack last week where the would-be thief, having failed to saw through the lock, started on the fork instead. Home-made Lefty, anyone?

  • Someone makes his wife ride a £50 Apollo, and you call him your friend? Spousal abuse is no laughing matter. :x
