My goal is to ride 100 km frequently, starting with 30-40. I've spent the last days reading around and gathering information. I heard I shouldn't go lower than Tiagra but going 105 is really worth it. I've also heard people comparing 105 to Veloce and that Veloce could be a better choice.

These are the bikes that I've looked into:

Scott Speedster S30 2010 from a local shop. 1,019.17 EUR

Matrix Whirlwind TT 679.068 EUR second hand, All second hand bikes have been safety checked and repaired

Gepida Bandon 1000 782.255 EUR second hand

I also have a chance to order a Ribble Winter Trainer but I need help with the components and also feedback on the company itself. If my bike didn't fit or I need a new part etc etc.

This is the link to their bike builder.

What components are good for an entry-level bike?

Appreciate the help!

These are my measurements.
Inseam 90 cm
Trunk 64 cm
Forearm 36 cm
Arm 68 cm
Thigh 65 cm
Lower Leg 59 cm
Sternal Notch 150 cm
Total Body Height 182 cm

  • Also found this bike. It's the cheapest all 105'er I've been able to find. It goes for 1075 EUR.

Please don't take this as a put down, but many of those bikes are very different in terms of geometry, and you won't have the foggiest which would be best just by looking at the specification. Neither will anyone else.

You say it is your first bike, in which case you should be travelling to your biggest local bike shop and getting on a few to see what fits and feels right. You can then talk to someone who can explain the difference in specs, although if it is your first bike I doubt you'd notice the difference between 105 and Tiagra, or Veloce.

Probably not the answer you want, but it's the best advice I can give you.

  • Of Course, I understand. I will go to a local shop. I'm just gathering as much information as possible before I do it. If a frame is good or bad for instance. People say the Specialzed Allez frame is a great one for its price and I was hoping for opinions on my examples. In the end, it's just a matter of feel as you said though.

You're right, and I don't have a preference between the three. It's just that I haven't heard good things about the lower-end, 2300 for example.

Don't worry, It was great and honest advice!

Yes, the Allez is a very decent frame, and so is the Cube Peloton (similar price), both are very different to ride. But, there are a whole raft of bikes around that price range that are also just as good. I have just been through this with a good friend, and took him to a LBS, he came out with a bike he hadn't even considered because it felt the best. I wonder whether people starting out in cycling get too hung up on spec's and weights, rather than just getting something that you fall in love with at the shop, and enjoy riding.
