This is probally a stupid question can I count the teeth on a cassette to determine the size of it, as the spec of my bike says I have a 12-25 cassette but whilst cleaning my bike yesterday evening I noticed on the back of the cassette it has printed 12-27 in very small print its a 5700 105 cassette.

Yes, just count the teeth on the smallest and largest sprockets. That's what the eg 12-27 indicates.

Thanks Keef66 thats what I needed to know, I only spotted this last night so I havent had to chance to actually have a look yet, I have always assumed I have a 12-25 as per the spec so seeing 12-27 printed on the cassette took me by surprise.

@styxd really helpful reply thank you maybe with your tact the beginners forum isnt the best place for you to hang around.

    Sorry!

But honestly, "Road Beginners" means exactly that - beginners to road cycling. Not beginners to common sense.
