Garmin 800 Route Uploading Misery

Hi All, Just wondering whether anyone has seen issues in uploading GPX routes to the Edge 800? If I get a number of routes and copy into the New Files folder, and switch it on they don’t all make it! If I then add a few the next time some that were on the first time then disappear. I'm not talking millions of routes or anything - only 11 at one time....
I can't find any word of a small limit of allowed routes
Each one is <40k in GPX file size
They all have unique route names inside the GPX file
There are no stupidly long file names, or silly characters
Can’t think what else to check...
Hopefully you can tell me how many routes you have loaded on yours?
Whether I'm missing an uploading trick?

MTB or Road - They are both good!

Do you use a different gpx file for each route?
If not I would suggest that maybe that is the way to go.0 -
Yes they are all seperate files, and I'm copying those to the 'New Files' folderMTB or Road - They are both good!0

Are you using the newfiles folder on the internal memory or the add in microsd card0

I've tried both and get the same thing. the only difference is that if the routes are put on the card they have SD put in the route title.MTB or Road - They are both good!0

The routes will appear under Menu -- Courses.I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.0

I have just dumped 14 tracks to the microsd card newfiles folder and they all appear.
I generally use mapsource to create tracks and note that even though the gpx file for a track is called "gpx file" the track name within the file is called track by default.
It may be that uploading new tracks is overwriting the original tracks even though the gpx file names are different!!

OP, are you leaving enough time for all files to be transmitted before disconnecting? Are all the files there when you view the folder on your computer?--

I tend to do this using training center. I must admit I have found the 800 to be very buggy.0

I'd agree it’s very buggy! I have had a call now with Garmin who to be fair were reasonably helpful. I’ll document what I’ve learned in case its useful for someone else……
So for those like me that use the “this is not approved method” of copying a GPX to the New Files folder they say that you shouldn’t really do this! It does work if you only upload one at a time it will appear as a course without deleting existing courses. This of course is very boring, as you copy a file, disconnect, switch it on let it convert as it boots, connect it again, copy file, disconnect - If you attempt multiples sometimes existing ones do disappear. This behaviour proves true with repeated testing.
So the “approved” method is to use Garmin Connect a remarkably intuitive piece of software(?) and to perform a manual upload of a GPX file. I then run into a problem here as I use Where’s the Path to create the GPX. http://wtp2.appspot.com/wheresthepath.htm .
When I upload that GPX it does not import (while providing a green tick (doh!) and the message “some activities cannot be created”). On closer inspection it appears that the Garmin Connect software will only accept GPX1.1 files. Some apps, including Where’s the path output GPX1.0. Why on earth Garmin can’t accept both versions is beyond me. I may try doing this with TCX files and see if the behaviour is the same at some point.
For now I’ll just go back to doing them the “New Files” way and uploading them individually.MTB or Road - They are both good!0 -

Yes all the files are there in the new files folder when I put them there and the copy had finished. If I look in the Courses Folder the previous routes are there as Fit files. When I then start up the 800 some of the new ones will be converted bit some of the older Fit files (courses) have gone. This doesn't seem to be a function of speed of doing this.MTB or Road - They are both good!0 -
I don't use the recommended garmin way either, but i hardly ever put more than one file on at a time.
I create the route, either in basecamp or off an online site like bikeroutetoaster, then copy it to the new files folder on the SD card on the 800, or download to my hd, then manually copy it to the 800.--
