I've just rounded bolts on the second set of clarks lock on grips i've had so I'd like some new one before I cut/drill them off to fit a poploc :) preferably cheap, but would like ones I can reuse so I'm looking at superstar and ODI.

http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Mode ... odelID=152 ODI Ruffian
http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Mode ... elID=26600 ODI X-Trainer

Will be used for general XC, what are your thoughts? Thanks :D

I rate WTB Moto x, good for large hands and can be found online for around a tenner.

SSC wear super fast, and I find them quite narrow for my spades.

Switched to ODI Extremes and never looked back. That said my mates ODI Troy Lee's feel even grippier!

I've got a pair of the Odi X Trainers and they're really comfortable. Also - take a look at the Lizard Skin Chargers....

I have odi extreme and they are super grippy, like a sticky texture and really count on them in the rough parts.

Reckon I'll give the superstar grips a go. They work out a fair bit cheaper even if they wear quickly! £11 pimped and £5 for a replacement cartridge. I've never experienced grips wearing on me but maybe I just didnt notice. Thanks for the heads up and other opinions :) but there's just sooo much to choose from!

Superstar do wear quite fast but you cant have it both ways they are either soft and grippy or they last for ages. Take your pick.

    The reviews are right.

EDIT: Oh, by the way - I have the Superstar grips too. Way less soft and grippy.

Soft and grippy :) will make a nice change and may even help the arm pump I seem to be getting!

I have a set of the supagrips(in the soft compound that they dont make anymore) and the excells(in the standard compound). I found both to wear fast, but not be particularly comfortable or grippy. Ive since changed to lizardskins peatys, which dont seem to be wearing as fast and feel much more comfortable. Ive also tried sunline lock on grips, which I was very impressed with too.

Okay I'm being talked into the lizard skins chargers. Anyone that has used them, what are the bar plugs/ends like? I have a habit of them falling out within a few rides but I'm guessing it was because they were cheap and nasty? I can't see bar plugs mentioned here http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Mode ... delID=3327

Thanks for the replies so far

Oh, you want end plugs for a chain ring? ;)

These are the one you will get when you buy the Chargers: http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Mode ... elID=13362 I haven't used them though, as i bought these at the same time (only because i could then decide the color): http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Mode ... elID=39385. They certainly don't fall out, but i guess the standard end plugs would be fine.

For me, the standard plugs seemed a loose fit, but they havent fallen out in a few months riding

Obviously meant http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Mode ... elID=33270  I have no idea why it linked to that but hang on .... maybe my chain ring is getting a bit worn ..... i think the chain slipped off it last month ... next topic please :D only the fact that I lost my part time job last month is stopping me! Upgrading is rather addictive!

You have not had much luck. I've had many grips that were both incredibly soft and grippy, and lasted 3x as long as my mates superstar ones. And no, they weren't expensive either.

Lizard Skins Logo lock ons are very grippy and have lasted very well. SSC grips I find narrow and wear very quickly without having more grip.

Brand X @ CRC. Cheap but work just fine.

  • I have ODI Troy Lee Designs grips which show hardly any sign of wear in a year. In a year my Superstars grips wore smooth. Given the relative wear, the more expensive grips are offering better value for money to my mind.
