Shimano M596's - http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Mode ... elID=672460

I personally would spend a little extra and get Avid Elixir 1's:

Your money will go a bit further in the used market on ebay, but you never know what your getting or what monkeys have tried to bleed them.0 -
Oh and dont consider Clarks Skeletals, theyre pump0

id stay away from avids. money would be best spent on shimano m666 slx in my opinion0 -
Why would you stay away from Avids? I have Elixir 1's and theyre absolutely spot on. I havent read a bad review about them either.

On CRC, a set of M666 will set the OP back £160, considerabley more than his budget.0 -
Sorry to hijack the thread,
I've got M445s as well and don't like them much. Could I keep the M445 levers and just change the callipers for now and get levers later?0 -

Yeh, I've looked into it a bit more and the like you said, it's the levers that are the game changer...so I could just get a pair of SLX M666 levers and just swap them over?
Bling value alone would make it worth it0 -
I'm not sure about whether you can just swap them, you'll have to wait for somebody more knowledgable to come along0
-
No worries!
If someone could confirm, I've got my finger over the buy button for a pair of M998 XTR levers at wiggle!
I'm thinking I can upgrade the calipers next month if the M445 aren't able to hack it?0 -
or rather M666 as the XTR re £63 per side not a set! Thought I got me a bargain then :-(0

More spam from me.
I found these Deore XT on Rose for £67. Seem pretty confused:
http://www.rosebikes.co.uk/article/shim ... aid:515731
They're down as rear brakes but with right levers? Shouldn't they be left levers? Seems like a mix and match? I could buy these, and then some left levers and front calipers elsewhere and still save? Evans have the levers for £35 which sounds good to me?0 -
in some other places they have the levers swapped round.
rose is the cheapest place for brakes that i know of.0 -
So if I just get that set above, and the other lever and caliper elsewhere, it's not a problem to just switch them around again? Such a noob question!
Am I looking at it wrong but Rose only seem to have rear brakes :oops:0 -
http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=39006Stick with Shimano Deore M596 (or the older M595 if you can find a deal. Top brakes, the snobs further up the thread just want to see SLX or XT on them (or another brand). Ridiculously good value and offer 95% of the performance of the others (if not 100%!) See the mags test results if you need confirmation.

59.99 for Deore or £63 for the Deore XT....might as well just pay the extra £3 for the bling value alone?!
I've ordered some fronts and will order the rears on pay day. Ready for the summer!!!0 -
