I'm looking at buying some 700x23c tyres.
I've currently got continental ultra gatorskins that are 25c. I've seen some continental ultra sport that are £10 cheaper than the gators, what's the difference between the two???

any advice on these or any other 23c tyres that don't cost the earth??
for occasional commuting but mainly weekend rides out.

thanks

ultra sports are not good tyres

if you want good value, decent tyres then Michelin Krylion in either 23 or 25mm. See CRC.

I promise I don't work for them but bike-discount.de have some amazing deals on Conti Tyres....

Gators are designed for puncture resistance.

Ultra sport are designed for lightweight and are no way near as durable in the puncture stakes.

sounds like I'll stick to gators then, cannot risk getting punctures when out as cannot be fussed with all the hassle of Leeches etc..

if you're going to get conti tyres, make sure they are the ones made in Germany . The Ultra sports are fairly cheap tyres made not-in-germany and usually supplied OEM. Conti Grand Prix have the same puncture protection as Gatorskins but less rubber and not the anti-slash mesh so they are a faster but slightly less robust alternative.

BTW - if you're using 25c tyres then I wouldn't bother going to 23, they'll be less comfortable and they dont roll any faster.

thanks for the advice, I'll stick to 25's as that seems to be the general consensus on this and other forums.

I've got some ultra sports that came with my Kuota Kharma - I know they're not exactly top of the Conti range, but I've had no issues with them at all. I'm happy to stick with them until they wear out...and then move up to GP4000.
