bike light not working!

long shot but my rear cateye light has went very dim,is it totally knackered or anything I could try to fit it?

(tried new batteries)

    :D well don't know how but I got it working,it was either very very dim or not coming on at all for the last 2 days,just tried putting the batteries in the wrong way,took them back out with the help of a knife as they got stuck and the light is now working great!

    It might be worth checking for any corrosion on the battery contacts as well.

    Agreed, corrosion on the contacts a very likely cause.
    The action of batteries in and out and perhaps the knife scratching at the contacts probably cleaned them up a bit.

    another one is to bend the contact out a bit to ensure a good grip on the battery.
