Problem with Bibshorts

I've tried a few pairs... Castelli, Santini, Altura, and just don't find them comfy enough. Unusual I know. The problem is I find them too bulky and restricting around the front
They are very comfy everywhere else, the pads are usually great for the sit bones, but I can't see the reason for all the bulk around the front :?
Can anyone recommend a brand/model that has thinner padding at the front?
I don't want to have to stick with waist shorts, but it may be the only option.
Thanks for any help.

I havent, but will have a look at them as I have plenty of other DHB kit that im impressed with.
And no, this is not a virant on willy waving as you put it :? if anything its more to do with discomfort of the bollocks (if I must be more accurate), and no, they arent particularly big.0 -
Are they uncomfortable when standing or riding?Obsessed is a word used by the lazy to describe the dedicated!0

Just bought some Endura FS260-pro bib shorts today. Very comfy and the pad doesn't seem to come up too far at the front. But I guess it's a matter of trying a few on...0

I find the pad on my DHB Aeron race bibs v comfortable and quite compact ( and my bollocks are enormous & dont get me started on the snake ; god knows how I fit it all in there!).0 -

Dipping you hand in and lifting your knackers et al out of the way of saddle/chamois interface area - you know, first thing you (should) do after pulling your bibs up. Then you forget after the first pee stop and have to dip and lift on the move, much to the disgust of any oncoming motorists/pedestrians.0 -

Mainly when getting out the saddle, standing then I guess.
I can get away with them on a flat ride with not much out of saddle action.0 -

Do these have less bulk at the front of the pad?
Might be worth a shot.
RE Dip and lift... FFS how big are ya knackers?0 -
Ok, so 'lift' may be a slightly overblown descriptior
just wanted to make sure that you were taking everything out of the way of the saddle/chamois interface as not doing so will cause friction somewhere.0 -
Any more recommendations for a decent bib short with thinner padding at the front?0

Are waist ones different in the pad area then?
What waist ones have you got - do the corresponding bib ones have the same pad?Yellow is the new Black.0 -

The Waist ones i've got are Altura and Giordana. I've tried Altura Progel bib shorts but they cause the same problem. I think its down to the straps pulling the front section upwards. You may suggest a larger size, but i'm 6ft and 10st 9, so they would probably be too baggy.0 -
What about getting Mrs SS to sew in some extra material to the braces? Or you if your a modern man ofcourse.Yellow is the new Black.0

RE Dip and lift... FFS how big are ya knackers?
They have a shaped pad at the front to allow more space for tackle.
Pearl Izumi PRO might work for you too as they have quite a thin pad and no modesty pad at the front like Assos. They may have changed them though as mine are 2008.Pegoretti

Quick update...
I couldnt resist trying another pair of Castelli bib shorts, this time in XL. They are the Velocissimo model with the Kiss3 pad, and are superb ! Very comfy. No unnecessary bulk to the sides or front of the pad, just great padding where needed. And they look great which is a bonus.
I'll be sticking with Castelli from now on.0 -
And they're not too loose around the waist? I'm about the same height/weight as you, have been looking for a decent pair of bibs but there always seems to be a 2 size discrepancy between height (L/XL) and waist (S/M)!0

Hi James, totally agree. From what I gather, when looking at size guides for certain brand Bibshorts, the waist figrues don't really apply as they're massively out of proportion for the typical cyclist's build !
The XL Castellis are perfect for me around the waist and i'm a 32"-33". They're not as tight fitting as some people like, but perfect for me.
Santini is another brand to look out for. Similar thin sizing. I would go for XL in either of these brands. Hope that helps.0
