Toying with the idea of changing to single speed on the front -
Would it be wise to keep the middle out of my three current sprokets? I get the whole crossing the chain with 3 up front thing, so guessing i'll have to get spacers to ensure the sproket is spaced right?
Are there any other pitfalls? (loosing chain tension etc) - my intention is to get one of those little roller wheel things to stick under it up front to keep the chain nice and tight. I guess I could do this with two sprokets and work my way to 1 if I don't find I use it?
Also: taking off the plastic chainguard that came on the complete, dangerous or useless like reflectors?

You can run any size you want in the middle position.
Add a chain device as well."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."
