Bottom Bracket advice

Hi, my bottom bracket has died it appears and as such I need a replacement.
The one that is currently fitted is a Sugino BB7420 with english thread and a 116mm spindle, I cannot find one of these following a quick google but I'm wondering if I can just buy an alternative brand which will do just the same job and can anyone recommend one?

If you fancy working it all out for yourself then try http://www.sheldonbrown.com if not I'm sure someone will be along in a minute with an accurate replacement link. There are bound to be dozens of other brands that will fit. You've no won the Big Cup since 1902!0

The only other specification you really need to worry about is whether the taper is JIS or ISO (I think the Sugino will be JIS).
Other than that, yes, you should be able to replace with alternatives - Velo Orange make a good one:
http://freshtripe.co.uk/Freshtripe/Drivetrain.html (they are out of stock of the 116mm sadly - but Email Freshtripe as they are very helpful and order from VO regularly) - bit more information on it here - http://store.velo-orange.com/index.php/ ... cups.html-
I am sure there will be a million and one alternatives - from cheap as chips to megabucks (I have a Royce titanium thing on my main bike and a Specialities TA titanium one on the Brompton - they look amazing - shame they are the least visible part of a bike! Equally, I have a £10 FSA thing on the fixed and that seems to do very well).0 -

Cheers, I appreciate the info.
I think it's JIS, but I need to take the BB out of the bike and get all the details off it.0
