This is on my carrera fury with my suntour epicon fork. Tried removing it last night and it was very difficult to remove, had to give it a short sharp hit with a hammer to get it started. would it be ok to put some grease on it to prevent this happening again,or any other advice please.

I don't grease mine, I take my wheel off to clean my forks and inside my front brake and just clean the maxle at the same time, so just clean it and it should be fine.

Having seen 2 friends bikes do this, eg. the axle almost welding itself to the bearings from no grease and been dry inserted. My advice would be to grease the axle, just keep it away from the threads and check before every ride and you'll be fine.
