Coming from an MTB background i have just purchased my first road bike. Never been a fan of spd type pedals & have no intention of switching to them. What are my options for the road bike my intial thought was a lightweight platform pedal, however thought i would see if anyone else out there is using a non clip pedal.
Thanks
Matt

Flat pedals & clips n straps are your only options really. And the latter are more difficult to get out of than SPDs if used properly. So yeah, just get some decent flat pedals.0

I use the same as on my mtb, DMR V8's some may say they look wrong, but you can't see them when your feet are on them
I am thinking of changing them for something a little lighter though.2019 Ribble CGR SL

2014 Specialized Allez Sport0 -
I run these on my MTB Wellgo MG-1's with ti axles working out at 310grams for the pair been looking at Wellgo R146 pedals for the road bike 265grams for the pair (pretty smart to)Show me your green bits i might buy them !0

If you have any intention of going fast on a road bike, then you're putting yourself at a huge disadvantage by not having any means of securing your foot to the pedal, otherwise you'll be losing as much as 30-40% of your potential pedalling effort and just tire yourself out quickerMake mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..0

"Used properly" can mean cinched tight like racers did in days of yore and track riders still use today BUT this is very dangerous on the road, your feet are stuck and you need a hand to loosen the straps.
Almost every toeclip and strap user on the roads uses them in touring mode which is lose. You get less efficiency than with clipless but much more than with plain platforms. With a clean profiled shoe, you can slip in and out of lose straps with no issues at all.
Get some MKS Sylvian touring pedals, double sided, reliable, maintainable cage pedals and you can fit clips, mini-clips or power-straps as you like, or just use them plain.0
