swapping brakes on X3

Hi
Just bought a Giant Trance X3 2012 model, today and I would like to put my Elixir R brakes fom my old bike (they are only 6 months old) on to replace the Elixir 1 brakes it came with.

1. Is this a wise move?
2. On my new bike they are routed through plastic loops on the frame. I cant see how to undo them. Do I just snip them and replace with zip ties when I install the new brakes?
