New Drivetrain Required ?

Problem : The chain appears to have been slipping when I have been in the big ring. The small ring was fine. So, I ordered a new big chainring and a new 9 speed KMC chain (for it is a 9 speed set up). My current big ring is a 50 tooth ring, I ordered a 53 tooth Campag ring. Although it was a 5 bolt set up, it was far too big for my cranks when it arrived. I then fitted the new chain. With the new chain it is slipping even worse on both rings. When comparing the old chain to the new chain for the same number of links the old chain was far longer and so is pretty much definitely worn.

Solution : I am guessing that I now need to buy new chainrings and a new cassette. My problem is making sure I get the correct one. It is a 2006 Bianchi with Campag groupset. It was the entry level groupset which, I think, was Mirage. First of all, am I looking at the correct solution ? If so, how can I make sure I am buying the correct kit ?

You bought a standard chainring which has a 135mm (I believe) bolt circle diameter. The 50 ring you have means you have a compact chainset which has a 110mm BCD. Just get the correct chainring and you should be ok, remembering to specify whether you have a square taper bottom bracket or Ultra Torque as the fitting is slightly different. It sounds like you need to renew both rings and probably the cassette as well.

I suspect you bought chainrings when what you really needed was a chain and cassette.

(the chain wears faster than the cassette, which in turn wears faster than the chainrings)

Get the cheapest Campag cassette you can find (make sure it has the same number of sprockets as your current one) and it sounds like you already have a new chain to go with it.
I imagine this will cure your jumping.

Thanks, I managed to find a cassette which I now have in my sweaty mitts. I have also ordered some chainrings but following your advice I will try the cassette and chain before I fit the chainrings and if that works can return the chainrings.
