Double Chain Ring and Bash Guard

Hi,
I am building a Scott Ransom Carbon 10 and wanting to go for a double chain ring with a bash guard. I am unsure the best way to go about this in regards to buying a crankset and bash guard.
I am wanting to have something like 26 and 36 front chain rings.
I am going with XT and XTR groupset so wanting to stay away from the Saint stuff as I heard it isn't that great.
Any opinions or options on what is the best way to go about building what I am after?

Buy the arts and put it together. May be best to get a triple crankset as then there are no issues with a bash."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

Easiest thing to do would be just to get the SLX dual/bash chainset, no?

Nothing wrong with Saint other than weight.... Nothing wrong with XTR double and bash, I had this before I went single ring and XT will be fine too...
The issue would come when / if you wanted to run an outer ring (40T +) and bash but with what you have mentioned, easy.... You just may need to buy some chainring spacers to adjust the chainline...Ibis Mojo HD 2011 www.bikeradar.com/forums/viewtopic.php? ... t=12842777

I like th elook of the SLX double and bash. Just what I am after. Is this a 9 speed only? And do I need a double mech for the front or does it not matter as long as I have a double gear selector?2007 Scott Ransom Carbon 10

You can get 10 speed, and it will work with a triple mech just adjust the limit screws.0 -
Also like the look of this if I decide to go the non shimano route:

The SLX double and bash uses thicker axle (and perhaps other bits) and weighs more than the SLX triple converted to double and bash.....also the Shimano bash are HEAVY, something to ponder bolting in your svelte carbon frame!

As said above it will work ok with a triple mech ( this is what I have) however if your specing a new one you may as well get the double specific mech. Apparently it's designed to shift up and down the rings better. When my front mech wears out thats what I'll be ordering. When you go to the ground you are in my world. My world is the ocean. Put the SLX double specific front mech on today. It's also more lighter & smaller than the standard triple version (SLX)"Why have that extra tooth if you're not using it?" - Brian Lopes

Been looking at Race Face Evolve and Respond kit today in regards to double ring crankset and bars & stem.
Looking at what is available and discounts on offer I am leaning towards the Respond Crankset 24 - 36 but Evolve AM bars and AM Stem.2007 Scott Ransom Carbon 10
