Well, yesterday's ride turned into a bit of a faff really! What should have taken us 3hrs took us nearer 5 and a half... At the top of the first climb, my riding buddy pulled a flat. It could be heard hissing when putting sideways pressure on the valve so naturally I assumed he knocked the valve and it had pulled away from the rubber. We both had plenty of patches but no spares - so a massive thanks goes out to the rider who gave us his tube and refused to take some money for it saying that 'karma is watching...'

The real tits up cames 45min later when he experienced the same type of flat. On closer inspection, there was a bur in the metal at the valve hole that was picking away at the rubber. Some walkers lent us their leatherman so I could chaff down the bur using the nail pick. With some gentle praying, another rider came past and we purchased his spare tube. The rest of the ride finished quite nicely.

Marks down for the DT Swiss rims on his fairly new bike for not coming from the factory 'smooth'. Marks down for me not carrying a tube. Marks up for my buddy learning to remove a tyre, replace a tube and rebuild (his first ever go). Massive marks up to the everyone that helped keep us going!

If you've read this far, you can have a +1 too :) Keep up the good work strangers!

doesnt it make you feel good when a stranger helps you out these days? my missus had parked at asda during the winter and some good samaritan had noticed that she had a nearly flat tyre. they went to the trouble of leaving a not on the window to warn her to be careful, theres not many people left in the world who would actually do that.
