Shorts for a lanky git?

Hi, i've been struggling to find a set of bib shorts that go more than half way down my thigh, I'm 6ft but only a 31" hip size.
I currently wear a pair of gore contest bibs in a small, which fit great around the waist but only go half way down my thigh, which isnt the best for looks. I bought a pair of dhb aeron pro shorts in a medium but had to return them as they dont fit great and they rolled up the leg just as bad as the gore ones.
I'm wondering if any other tall but thin guys have found any brands that do longer than usual shorts? I don't want to use 3/4 lengths, just shorts than stop just above the knee!

Rapha pro bib shorts are an excellent fit for us long legged folk
Xl size for me fits me and I'm 6ft3 34waist. I would recommend the large for you
They are of course very expensive but you'll never ever wear a different pair!0 -
Hi
Assos do one of there shorts in a XL leg option, I think they're 4cm longer than regular. Can't comment on what they're like but they could be worth a look

Assos Mille are a longer than usual cut and, as mentioned by Mike they also offer an even longer option.

How long is your inseam? Mine's 32" and I wear Santini XS (I'm skinny) but they also usually come only slightly further than half way down my thigh, which I don't really mind. You might find their medium (?) works for you.
I'd just accept it if I were you - you get better tan lines!0 -
Cheers for the suggestions, while the assos and rapha shorts look idea i can't quite justify the cost yet. I've just starting road riding and £120+ for a pair of shorts is slightly out of my budget. I'd like to spend approx £70 if possible.
My inseam is 34" and the distance from crotch to knee is 15".
MajorMantra, the tan line comment is a good point!0 -
I'm a similar size and am using DHB Aeron's in medium at the moment and like you say they aren't the best fit around the waist and the leg grippers are a bit loose. I find them comfortable though. I'm considering getting some Aeron's in a small next time Wiggle have a deal on and just putting up with the short leg although would maybe have to lengthen the shoulder straps a bit.
Would be interested to know if anyone has any recommendations that don't cost 3 figures!0 -
A pair of XL are just over your 3 figure...

Med and Large 125.
They are totally worth the extra spend, I can't rate them enough!
You could easily spend 70 pounds a pop on other brands and never wear them.0 -
I have always struggled wth this problem. It's never made clear by any manufacturer whether leg length increases as size of the garment increases.
In the end, I was directed towards Giordana shorts and have just bought a pair of Giordana Technical Blend Silverline http://www.ribblecycles.co.uk/sp/road-t ... IORZBBS425. I went for XL and the leg length is well below mid-thigh, the fit is good and the quality is very good. They also have a thinner pad than Santini which I prefer.0 -
Craft shorts are good. They're a Swedish manufacturer, so are more suited to strapping swedes, not tiny italians !
(the Elite aero jerseys are a little snug though, even for a race fit !)Science adjusts it’s beliefs based on what’s observed.

I got some Mcipollini bibs on the weekend. Long leg length and fantastic fit. Worth a look!
I had the silverlines you've ordered. Lack of grippers on the legs drove me mad, and i never got on with the pad.0 -
I'm 6" 1' and 32 waist 32" inside leg I have some DHB Aeron bib shorts in large but I lost a stone and half since I bought them so they are a bit to loose a fit now 12st 7lbs. I got a pair of Castelli Presto 2011 bib shorts medium a tight fit but vastly superior fit to the DHB Aerons. They are so comfortable you feel like they are painted on very good pad also. Wiggle have the 2012 ones for £75 I would reccomend these as a quality bib shorts. I would say they Castelli bib shorts finish 6" above the knee. They don't ride up either and the grippers are still tight after about 2 dozen rides and washes. I love thes bibs best thing I've bought recently.

Just thought I'd mention that I got some DHB Aeron Pro's in small this week as they're on offer and they fit fine - I'm just under 6' with a 30" waist. Did 200km in them yesterday and they were pretty comfortable.0

Just to update the thread, i went to my my lbs today and went though almost the entire spesh, gore and endura range in an attempt to find a pair of longish shorts. The best i found were the gore power 2.0's but they still were only perhaps slightly above mid thigh.
I'm currently using a pair of dhb 3/4ers that only cover the knee and mos tmuch of the lower leg, which is ideal for this weather but the search for a summer pair continues!
I'm going to order a pair castelli presto shorts of wiggle soon and see how they are, if they're not great not i''ll biting the bullet and splashing out on a pair of the long leg assos mille's!0 -
Try the rapha pro shorts as I've already said. Save all the messing around ;-)0
