are showers at work a must for commuting on a bike? would any of you guys that have showers at work still cycle to work if you didn't have work showers?

I probably wouldn't. Especially if it's been raining; the joys of riding past farmland.- - - - - - - - - -

I have a hilly commute so if there were no showers, I wouldn't have started.
But now that I've done it for so long, if showers were withdrawn, I think I'd happily get by with a body wash in the sink0 -
Just a bit of deo rinse the face with cold water and a fresh top. Actually if u arrive about 10 mins early take then tens mins to cool down before sorting your self out.cosna kick a bo agen a wo and ed it back till it bos-UP HANLEY ME DUCK

I had this very dilemma this morning. It was my first full commute into work (normally I train in, ride home). I thought I would need a hardcore shower, but I found I actually wasn't too bad. I'd brought a towel so splashed some water on my face, put some anti-pong on and got changed into work clothes. Thankfully I have a large desk fan so I could crank that up to speed the cooling process.
Face was red as a beetroot though.0 -
I love a long shower when I get to work, would probably find some other way of getting clean if there wasn`t one. Can`t be pleasant being smelly at work all dayMy 2012 Cube LTD http://www.bikeradar.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=128035930

It depends on how much you sweat. There's no way I could do my 16 mile commute without a shower at the other end even if I took it really slowly.
Others could probably get away with it.0 -
I have two options for my 8 mile each-way commute (when it's dry):
Cycle full pelt in full cycle gear and take 10 mins in the shower, getting changed etc
Cycle sedately in work clothes (jeans, t-shirt), arrive 10 mins later than above and don't shower (wash face, squirt of deo)
Both take roughly the same time, but this time of year I prefer the latter.
We've only had showers in work for a couple of years, but before that I just used baby wipes to give myself a clean down which worked just as well.0 -
No showers at my work, so it's always a few babywipes after arriving. At the moment it's not really hot enough to get sweaty, but when it is I cool down with a fan before changing clothes (no air-conditioning here, either ).0

Went a month without a shower when we moved office. Ended up cycling as the train is a fortune and washed myself in a sink with my aqua sports towel.. http://www.wiggle.co.uk/maru-aqua-dry-sports-towel/
Didn't get any complaints, to my face anyway0 -
we have no showers, but I find that arriving early enough to cool down before a 'sink wash' and anti pong works a treat!

I must have it easy, arrive to work.. jump in the steam room for a little bit then the shower, and on to work. Even have a laundry service where I can leave my a full weeks worth of work cloths at work, get them washed and ready for monday! Ah how i love my job0

My commute is only 6 miles, but I ride in full gear, and go flat out where possible to get some good training in, no showers at work so arrive 15 mins early to cool down, get changed etc.. The office building we share is installing showers, and i'll definitely be using them when they arrive.Cycling prints

Showers weren't available when I first started on the bike so just got changed and had a bit of a clean up/dry off as best as possible. A shower has now been installed and this is an improvement although the 5-10 minute cooldown around the car park and the back of the building is still a good idea as otherwise I can get showered and dressed and still end up sweating as the shower has appalling ventilation and turns into a steamroom anyway.0

I'm another tortoise rider who prefers to arrive cool and collected rather than hot, sweaty and needing to cooldown and shower.
I used to ride about 12 miles with no shower. I'm now better at judging dress and pace to ride sweat-free in most conditions and a bit older and slower.
8 miles sounds right for the crossover in advantage between tortoise and sweaty hare0 -
