Where can I watch cycling?

Many people ask where they can watch certain races on TV. Here is a guide to watching cycling in the UK.

Eurosport

The best place to watch the most cycling.

Available on any satellite or cable package*, and can also be watched on your computer on the Eurosport Player.

Eurosport shows virtually all the major cycling races and provides solid English commentary.

*BT TV is currently in the process of upgrading their package to show Eurosport.

The vast proportion of these races are shown live and roughly edited highlights are usually played in the evening.

In 2012, the following races are available on Eurosport:

Tour of Qatar
Tour of Oman
Paris - Nice
Tirreno - Adriatico
Milan - San Remo
Volta a Catalunya.
Criterium International
Tour of Flanders
Paris - Roubaix
Amstel Gold
La Fleche Wallonne
Liege - Bastogne - Liege
Giro del Trentino
Tour of Turkey
Giro D'Italia
Tour of California
Criterium du Dauphine
Tour de France
Olympics
Tour of Poland
Eneco Tour
Vattenfall Cyclassics - Hamburg
Vuelta A Espana
Grand Prix Quebec
Grand Prix Montreal
UCI World Road Race Championships
Giro di Lombardia
Paris - Tours

Eurosport puts particular effort into the Grand Tours ( Giro d'Italia, Tour de France, Vuelta a Espana), with good coverage for all of them.

The Tour de France and the World Road Race Championships are full proper productions and Eurosport will show as much of the Tour and the men's world road race as possible.

Eurosport HD is also available. Not all host-broadcasters provide an HD signal, but when they do, Eurosport HD will show them.

Note that Eurosport HD operates on a different schedule to British Eurosport, so pay attention to start times.

Also note that cycling can over-run. If you are recording, make sure you also set your box to record the program afterwards, in case your recording misses off the end of the stage.

ITV4

For those who only have freeview - ITV4 is the only channel that will show some cycling.

They do a good coverage of the Tour de France, with Paul Sherwen and Phil Liggett commentary, and a full production package, including decent (if advert filled) highlights. Some people find the commentary to be too US-centric and irritating for more knowledgeable cycling fans.

Also do Vuelta highlights in the evening. They often get shifted about due to football, so pay attention to the broadcast times.

Some domestic race highlights are also shown.

www.Cyclingfans.com

For all other cycling, the best place to go is Cyclingfans.com.

This website picks up all streams of races that are broadcast from other channels across Europe and links them as soon as they go live.

This experience involves some trial and error with the links to find the best stream for you. Some may work, some may not.

If you are looking for coverage of a race from a particular nation (say, Rai sports from Italy, or Sporza from Belgium), this is the place to go.

On the rare occasion Cyclingfans.com fails to provide any good links www.Steephill.tv is a good alternative.

www.Cyclingtorrents.nl

Cyclingtorrents.nl is a reliable torrent-sharing website, that puts up recordings of previous races.

Most races are available the evening after the race - and it is full of many classic races.

Since it is run voluntarily, it is not always 100% reliable - but no-where else comes close.

BBC

Show the Worlds Road Race, for men and women.

Will inevitably show the Olympic cycling too.
