I was wondering if anyone had any tips to help me insure my bikes.

I have just found out that they are only covered for around a 1/3 of their value with the home contents insurance. Upgrading this cover is also not possible without individual receipts for all the parts, which is not possible as my bike was bought 2nd hand.

Does anybody know any specialist companies to insure high value bikes?

You should't need to provide receipts for all the parts - as long as you can prove you own the bike & if you can document the parts and their values the insurer will provide indemnity. However as the value is less than the cost is a pretty redundant point.

british cycling have a pretty good scheme but you will find lots of different specialist companies that offer different levels of cover depending on what you want e.g. inc or ex racing/competition cover or UK only, EU or world wide cover.
Pain hurts much less if its topped off with beating your mates to top of a climb.

Hi Tom. Change house insurance company, if they try to charge you, just counter tham by saying that they can't cover your needs.

Morethan covers upto £5000 of bikes per house so long as you itemise it (I'm with them - and i pay less than i did on my old insurance without the bike - result!), other companies vary. They do say anything over 1 or 2 grand (cant remember) has to be inside the house and have decent locks on the doors to be insured. Great if you don't race.

They don't cover you for racing though and I'm not sure on the cover for foreign travel.
Proper bike insurance will cover any bike at a cost (I remember a quote for my spicy being something like 30 quid a month!) but will cover you for racing and over seas trips too.
