Upgrade or new?

Hey all.

My GT needs a new rear hub, now, this has given me the excuse to get lighter wheels, as my rear casstte doesn't fit most wheels...

But they can fit on Hope hubs as long as the rear is made from steel rather than alloy.

With that, I'm planning to get better brakes, which presents a problem, the ones I want, means I need new shifters.

So as i need to upgrade my shifters, and cassette the option of going 9 speed, or even 10 speed has arisen.

I also want to change my front fork to a lighter, air one, like a Rockshox Reba or Recon... or a Fox unit if I can afford it.

So all in all, this totals to around £800 with fitting etc.

I only have a GT avalanche, which was a budget buy anyways of £500.

Is my frame worth spending £800 on? or can I get a better bike for £800?
I would like a On-One whippet later in life too, so maybe get what I need now, and swap over later?

I need help deciding.

Thanks.
