Hello,

I got hit today at ~6:30pm by a car doing a left turn. They obviously did not look at all. The car took off before we could grab the no. plate. This happened at All Saints DLR Station, London at the major junction so I hope the camera caught the footage.

A lady called the Police on my behalf from her phone so we have her no. I got tried of waiting so I called the Police and told them that I will pop into the Police Station later on today. Let me stress, I was not not in pain because I was still recovering from the shock of being hit, but now that I am at home, the ball of my right foot which I used to cushion the landing is in a lot of pain. I am having to tip toe around the house.

All in all, I am glad I am alive. What shall I do now?

Thanks

See the sticky thread about what to do after an accident.

Is the bike ok? I hope your foot is sorted soon.

Accept that things happen in life and move on, its turning into suing culture in this country for such minor things, thats why my car insurance keeps going up year on year.

The OP didn't mention suing; he may simply wish the police to contact the driver and warn them of their poor driving standard. Your comment about high premiums may well explain why the motorist in question failed to stop (if they were insured in the first place).

I got hit yesterday, stopped a a T-junction to let car turn right from main road but he drove right into me. I tried to get eye contact but he wasn't even looking. Because I managed to jump up, I got hit by his bonnet rather than getting driven over.

However the point is, I insisted he rang the police and got an ambulance. Wouldn't let him move the car until police got there, police because I wanted them to see the position of his car on my side of the road, the ambulance because although I felt no more than badly winded, I wanted somebody who knew what they were doing to make sure.

As to suing them. I don't know. On the one hand I could do with the money because my jobs nearly over. On the other hand I hate these Injury Lawyers- r-us people. Whether I do or not depends upon how I think he'll behave in the future. I don't think he'll ever do it again, because his young son in the passenger seat was in hysterics after seeing his father run me over. That's probably punishment enough! He was also admitting liability to the operator when I told him to dial 999.

The one thing that won't be a consideration is will it put his premium up!

Am I right or am I wrong? I don't know. But I'm alive

    Dave

PS I hope the original poster is ok?

dont pass cars on the inside?

Bit of a leap into the unknown there. The OP doesn't say who was in front & who was overtaking. I was left hooked last year from behind whilst near as dammit in primary. The following driver that stopped to pick me up was incensed at the stupidity of the hooker trying to make that pass.

Hope the foot isn't too bad today.

sorry to bring a level of banality to a seriuos topic, but someone has to ask:

Did he make you angry? Because he wouldn't like you when you're angry!!!

    (hope you are ok!)

Not just about suing though is it? Driver failed to stop at the scene of an incident if nothing else.

Can't put my finger on why, but something about your reply has really irritated me....

    Hope you are OK.

Witnessed one myself this morning - driver was useless. I went into auto pilot and got the emergency services on scene, then took photos, car details etc for the cyclist who was lying on the floor.

I was nearly left hooked on Saturday. I was in primary doing just under 30mph down hill in a 30 zone, the Mrs shouted out from behind left hooker to which I looked around to see a guy overtaking me (so mainly on the wrong side of the road) with his left indicator on!

    Sorry to hear that.

I was very nearly right-hooked last night, but managed to stop in time. The passenger looked horrified but the driver was oblivious. I turned the air blue, I must admit.

That's what I thought till I got rammed down to the ground in the middle of the road by some idiot that doesn't know how to indicate or use his eyes/brain.
