look at new rear Derailleur i damage my 105 5700 rear Derailleur when a car cut my up on sunday bike ride.i fell off my bike so some marks are on my Derailleur.its change gear ok it got my home.looking at Shimano Ultegra 6700 10 Speed Rear Derailleur will this be ok with my Shimano 105 STI Levers 10sp 5700.or do i just buy a new 105 5700 rear derailleur crc are selling for &35 short cage.what is the easy way to tell if my rear mech which is damage is short cage.is this right you can measure distance of the Jockey wheel center to get the cage any info :|ps Crank: FSA Gossamer Pro BB30, 34/50. Rear Cogs: Shimano 105, 12-27 just need some info cheers :P

You should be fine with either replacement - typically long cage derailleur's are used on bikes with 3 front chain rings so normally mountain bikes and short cage with 2 front chain rings so normally road bikes/tt bikes.
Without getting technical you can and will find a small number of people using a long cage on a road bike but this is more to do with gear set up.
So to answer your question go with the short cage.Pain hurts much less if its topped off with beating your mates to top of a climb.0 -

If it is only cosmetic damage on the old one - sell it! There's plenty of people like me who don't care how scabby their kit looks as long as it works0
