Damage to new shoes!

First ride today wearing my spanky new shoes, and was wearing overshoes from when I left. Colleague had a puncture, so while he was fixing it, I decided to take my overshoes off as it was warming up nicely by then. Noticed a cut/slit (as shown in photographs below) on the right shoe
It's on the inside of the shoe, but hasn't gone all the way through. What's puzzled me though, there is no damage to the overshoe :!:
I got my bike out of the side room and all ready to go before putting shoes on in the hallway, then put overshoes on before going near the bike. There is nothing sharp at floor level in the hall, so confused if this is damage done at some point by me, or a manufacturing defect.
I checked the shoes and there wasn't a mark on them prior to today.
Anyone had similar with their shoes :?:
They are Shimano R077.

I've got a hole in one of my Shimano shoes in a almost the same place however I think it is just wear.
Shoe Goo would patch it up if you wanted to repair them yourself, assuming you can get a colour match.0 -
Reckon I must have caught it and will look at getting some shoe goo....ThanksShare The Road Event http://www.sharetheroadride.co.uk

I can't really tell - but I can see a scenario where you could do that through an overshoe, by catching it on something solid.0
