heh, I just liked seeing the desperate scrabbling at vague facts (your words, not mine), managing to conveniently misquote even yourself wrong, just to convince yourself your frame is special (and so are your scales). Don't worry, even though it's quite hefty, it's unique and looks good, what else matters beyond that?!

I felt exactly like that for a while, then I realised I couldn't care less what my bike looks like. The Five seemed a decent weigh, rode really well and looked quite cool*. Don't worry, your bike is lovely too, calm down.

The only Five I could find weighed in the last 2 years was 6.8lbs, so 200 grams heavier. Which is what I originally stated wasn't it? 200g saving for an £800 extra? Damn, I've been ripped off!

.. and you wonder why I made the original comment about the pitch forks

    * the one I've ordered is the SE black colouring, with Kashima bits at both ends \o/ Like http://www.stif.co.uk/mtb/product/orange-five-se-bike-2012/9225

once you add the equivilant options to the 5, maxle, kashima rp23, seat clamp and a decent colour, its £1716

Oh and.. what? You get a choice of 4 free colours, I spent barely more than that figure and got a frame + maxle + Kashima RP23 + Kashima Fox Float RLC + Hope headset.

Yet another thread turned into "Why I hate orange fives"!

Whilst they are a bit common, I can see the appeal of having a nice tough single pivot frame with a quality rear shock such as a ccdb. Depends on what you want to use it for really.

Anyway, telling the op to get an orange five frame isnt going to help him make his bike any lighter!(runs for cover)

well good for you then, you got a decent deal. my point was not aimed directly at you, but rather a the 5 in general, purely MY OPINION, compared to other alloy bikes of similar ilk, santa cruz heckler, it is abit on the expensive side at RRP, whereas any Ibis is, compared to its rivals, very well priced, it under cuts the likes of santa cruz, and even trek by several hundred pounds. If the 5 was a few hundred quid cheaper, bringing it inline with its rivals, it would be a better deal. People on this forum seem to be on a right vendetta against all orange "haters" atm... boringggg old (like the bikes) arguments about pitiful little details.

So basically, I listed a few decent frames, then in size "Tiny" mentioned an Orange Five would do similar, and not weight much more. Knowing full well people would jump in like drama queens, throwing ignorant rants about pretty much nothing. We've established my 200 gram figure is pretty much true, and you were wrong.

What are you still talking about?

Rubbish, just find ignorance frustrating. Especially when it disolves into quoting "facts", that aren't even vaguely factual.

I never said it was just about weight, imo the whole bike is not really worth the money, and is not really a bike I personally would think about buying. I personally don't like the frame, its not a great piece of design, yes it works, but not as I'd like it too, its seems quite expensive, and its not pretty, its not my kind of bike, I'm sure for some its a great bike, it wouldn't sell so well if it wasn't but for me, its just not what i would look for.

The Orange 5 frame (2011) weighs 7lbs without shock. I weighed a mates before we built it up & Orange also confirmed the weight when he asked. That was for an 18" frame, with a Maxle & seat clamp.

    The Ibis:

    mojo_hd_medium_frame_with_shock_and_guard.jpg

I built my Nomad C up to 26.9lbs, including a Reverb, Fox 36's & a Flow based wheelset. I went a bit mad, but its possible. I could probably save another 1lb by dropping some serious coin on a set of Haven carbon wheels, but my experience of Easton wheelsets is dire, so i'm happy.

that HD also has the downtube guard on, not sure what it weighs, but guess at around 70-80g? the maxle is around 100g or so, and with the shorter shock of the HD140, my figure of 2.83kg is pretty much on the money.

Drop some of last nights curry and save 200g
That beer, have a p and drop 100g
Take only 2 litres in that camelback and save a massive 1kg!!!
Fill your bike tyres up with helium and save 52.231g!!!!!
Paint your bike red instead of white and save 1.2873g.. (or is it the other way around?)
Shave legs and save.. I'm not sure, depends how hairy you are.
spend many thousands of pounds on a super light racing bike and have some hung-over/over weight guy on a fat Orange 5 overtake you on the downhill bit. :x
Get realistic and stop being so @nal about weight.?

Not sure you're keeping up here. Scroll up a bit, remember your argument now? Sit down and have a cup of tea, try again later?

Well done, your £2.3k frame is only 3kg, for a 150mm travel bike, you got a steal there! No idea why they're not more popular!

Noting that £1000 full bike Pitch has no shock, but a 250g bottom bracket. Putting all your cards on the "my bike is light" thing is rubbish if you're riding around on a plastic steamroller.

ok so the first point was a guess of the top of my head as far as I could remember, everyone makes mistakes. All mounting hardware as I said does not include the downtube guard, as this is an optional extra which I did purchase, as I saw no need for it. I got for £2099.99 to be precise ;) bargain!!

yep, rode one at a demo day at rutland year before last, it was pre- tapered headtube oversize seattube era, but it didnt feel great, it didn't feel overly heavy to pick up, but it felt heavy to ride, it bobbed all over the place without the propedal full on, and as you know bails I'm no heavyweight!

If i had the money and i dont id love a 5 they are 1 of very few hand made frames that are made in the uk come in many pretty colours and ride well, which is maybe why some dont like them bit like audis and beemers...... a mate has a 5 pro he goes round llandegla black in 1hr 20 and it weighs 28 pounds nuff said.

    Just thought I'd check.

The odd thing is, that's how DW/quad link bikes have all felt to me. (Whyte 146 X and S, Pivot Mach 5.7 and Mojo HD, so nothing cheao and nasty!) Suspension performance and looks are personal taste.

When you were riding it then it looked like it pedalled well, but when I rode it it felt like it was 'stealing' effort off me. Compared to the ASR5 that seemed spring loaded and would ping energy back when I chucked it about the dw bikes have all felt a bit slow. Fine when pedalling really, but there's just something that takes the edge off them, given how I ride anyway.

could be the difference between pedals, i use flats after all. the asr5 is a very agile bike, less travel as well, not saying what you felt is wrong on the HD, but i see what you mean coming from a HT to the HD is a big step, it sprints pretty well, it does its job i suppose  i am working on the lack of "spring" though, gonna try some custom shock tuning, cos I need all the help I can get when it comes to pedalling atm!!
