hi, just purchased my 1st roadbike and are thinking of entering the manchester to blackpool bike ride on the 8th of july which is approx 60 miles, i regularly ride about 35 miles off road on a mountain bike quite comfortably, my question is would i have to increase my fitness considerably before doing the 60 mile road, ............ thanks

If you can do 35 miles offroad, then it should be fine. Try a few loops next weekend on the road bike - if you can get to 40 miles, then you should be fine for 60 on the day. I suspect the more pressing issues at that distance - if you're fit enough - will be saddle soreness and aches and pains if the bike isn't set up properly...

Absolutely as g00se says - its going to be more a case of you getting the bike set up for yourself properly than gaining any real fitness. I'd say pains in the knees, back, neck and shoulders are the most obvious ones to be aware of

purchased the bike, specialized elite 2012 from my local bike shop where he set the bike up for me , he told me to do 100/150 miles on it to get used to the feel of the bike , go back and he,ll tweek it and do any adjustments needed

Don't think you will have a problem at all, just put some miles in to get used to new saddle/position and make sure your comfortable in the 'road'position, good luck
All lies and jest..still a man hears what he wants to hear and disregards the rest....
