Great frame choice! I recently bought a nice old lugged steel frame. It's in great shape for it's age 1960/70's, but I'll post some photos when I get round to restoring it. I read your blog thought it was great. It sounds like you have the 'slow-twitch' muscles as oppose to the 'fast-twitch'. But IMO once you are riding 100-130 miles regularly the speed will come.

p.s hope the man-flu clears up sharpish for you!

Lovely bike. I have been looking at them fairly lustfully ever since the came out a few years ago.

Re; your LEJOG, I did it with a group of friends last year. Here is a link to the blog we did for our training, http://journal.garethroulston.co.uk/ Maybe it will be of some use to you if you have not already sorted out all of your plans. - Good luck with your ride!

I'm 6', it was a bit of a toss up between the 58cm and the 56cm, I went for the 58cm as it felt good when I test rode it but I think with another 1cm on the stem and another spacer under it I'd be fine on the 56cm.

Thanks, I will take a look at the blog. I've got a rough idea of my plans but still quite a way to go before they're finalised.
  • I am curious as to what type of Campagnolo bottom bracket you are using. Is it one of the latter Chorus/Record models? The reason why I am asking is because TA states on their webpage that the Vega requires a JIS 107 BB, while the latter Campagnolo models were ISO 102. I am in need of a BB for a Vega double crankset and I have come across a lot of conflicting info.

I'm not sure to be honest, I picked up the chainset & bottom bracket together from here second hand. It could well be ISO 102, they seem to work ok together though.
  • Any chainline issues?

Not on this bike, although I briefly had the chainset and BB on a bike with a 34.9mm seat tube and had issues with chain rub on the front mech in the lowest gear. I didn't realise at the time but this must have been due to the crank/BB combo as it didn't leave enough clearance for the mech to reach it's lowest setting without coming into contact with the frame.

The Equilibrium has a 28.6mm seat tube and it's not an issue; I've also used it on my Litespeed Vela which has a 31.8mm seat tube without any problems.
  • The frame that the Vega would be going on also has a 28.6 seat tube. I will give it a go and see what happens. The reason why I am asking all this is because I already have a Campagnolo cartridge BB lying around somewhere in the parts box, and I would prefer not to have to buy another BB if I didn't have to. Thanks for your help.
