Ok stuff along the lines of cannock chase , as an alternative to use instead of the mongoose0

I have the Sektor's on my bike and I'm happy with them. Apparently they can dive mid bend but I've not noticed this.
However - before this bike I was riding on a bike equipped with 13 year old Judy T2, so most things would feel better, I guess.
You need to think about where you ride, as to whether you need the travel. Also bear in mind that the Sektor R doesn't lock out.0 -
Controversial it maybe, but I've never understood why you would have lockout on a set of forks... Let's face it, you're spending £300 ish + on a set of SUSPENSION forks, why would you want them rigid?... Unless for road use or racing, you still get bumps and roots etc on the up's and surely a lockout would stop them from doing what they do best which is absorb these?....
So, IMHO... Lock Out is for roadies / commuters / racers / gay's.... :0)Ibis Mojo HD 2011 www.bikeradar.com/forums/viewtopic.php? ... t=12842777

I see what your saying about l/o......esp on a ht... not too fussed about l/o tbh, where i mostly ride i wouldnt/dont need 140 mm travel and for the sake of 20mm there's no difference in parts on either bike really, its just i cant justify having another f/s so thought i'd check these out.....and it would save me £300 out of my budget for the mrs

It is a low speed compression lockout. It can be used to stop movement from brake dive, bobbing, but the fork will still react to sharp impacts.
Higher end motion control forks allow complete tuning of this.0 -
personally i would go Sektor as it has the Air spring for easier tuning to your weight, and if the Sektor has the Motion Control damper then it would be for me the better choice2011 KHS Full Susser Carbon 29er Race BuildClank wrote:M'eh, I might just go back to zapping it with frikken lay-zur beeeems. With lockouts, I think it depends what suits you. They're not necessary in my opinion. My current ones (Lyrik RC2 DH solo air and Recon 327) have no lockout and never really found any need for one either. The Lyrik has lockout on some models, but not this one as I believe they feel it puts some limits on it for DH use even when turned off. I'm not big on climbing, though I have to do it, however it's not about performance and speed for me. Just getting to the top. I don't climb out of the seat which is where I see most bob issues at the front.
Oh, and keep coils for top end stuff, big DH rigs etc.0 -
A lockout, front or rear, is useful on long tarmac or fireroad sections, not every trail is 100% singletrack. I have a few km of tarmac to get to the mountains or trails from my house.--

Rear lockouts often aren't a full rigid lockout anyway but just suppress pedal bob (e.g. pro-pedal), and even then it depends on the suspension design as how useful they are (hence why I found it makes little difference on the i-drive and vpp systems I've used).0

I have a poploc adjust remote lockout on my revs. I hardly ever completely lock them out. However, I find the adjustable low speed compression(or partial lockout) via the blue dial very useful for tuning the fork slightly depending on the trail without having to get the pump out.0

my wife has a lock out on her stumpy, can't remember the model now. full lockout, I can't get it to move with all my weight jumping on it. then it has propedal and fully open.
my recon forks have a 'lockout/compression' adjustment that takes a good hit to open, so no bob under normal riding. shame my rear shock only has propedal and fully open. it bobs a fair bit.--

I only ever use my lockout on climbs simply because they change the geometry, My DT Swiss' lockout works by not rebounding back up, so when they are locked out they go down to ~80mm which I find a lot easier to climb with. My old Recons had a poploc and thinking back, it just wasn't needed.Very funny Scotty, now beam me down my clothes.0
