edited March 2012 in Commuting general
For anyone who lives in Scotland and is free on the 28th April, Edinburgh is the place to be!! We, myself and a group of concerned cyclists have decided that the time is ripe to take the safe cycling message to Scotland's Parliament at Holyrood.

Not the same old message, not even the well intentioned but slightly disappointing message from the Times. We have our own message that we have written a manifesto around. There isn't space to write it all here, so have a look at our manifesto and event details on our website http://www.pedalonparliament.org. You can also follow the twitter feed (@POPScotland) or join the Facebook event page https://www.facebook.com/events/337187866331566/

We also have a petition that we need as many people to sign (ideally if living in Scotland) http://www.change.org/petitions/scottish-msps-and-local-councillors-make-scotland-a-cycle-friendly-nation

If you like what you read, spread the word. Lets make a lot of (polite) noise! :D

I had placed this post in the campaign forum. However, it had 38 views in a couple of days. I hope the moderators don't mind me moving it here to get some exposure. We are looking for numbers. It also has a lot of relevance as it is commuting where there is the greatest potential to increase cycling.

Just as much a yawn here. I would hope MP's have more important things to worry about.

I completely agree. MPs will have other things to worry about, especially considering this is in Scotland and we are asking people to write to MSPs and councillors. Not MPs.

I'd love you to make that comment to the parents and families of those killed riding their bikes....

    For those who are interested:

Pedal on parliament continues to gather momentum. We have a number of MSP's and councillors who are supporting our event, and Mark Beaumont has confirmed his support and should be riding with us on the day. Our petition now has nearly 600 signatures on it. Every signature helps, especially as there is now an upcoming debate in the chamber, secured by the green party specifically on cycling safety and provision.

Despite the naysayers, we really do have an opportunity to make a difference to Scotland's cycling policies. Help us by supporting the campaign in any way you can!

The petition can be found here (http://www.change.org/petitions/scottis ... dly-nation)
