I did the same thing & now use a Giant Reign X for everything from XC to downhill.
It has made xc more fun again because I can pedal up hills without too much effort & ride flat out down the hairiest descents. I have done downhill races on it & cross country races, even done both in the same day but never again!
I would go for either a Nomad or Reign XTransition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350 -
Totally recommend the IBIS Mojo HD, it is a great bike, climbs well, descends well, It's just expensive....
Best bet is to ride them all and see what's best...but for you.
If it was me, I'd test the Intense Tracer 2 as well.Ibis Mojo HD 2011 www.bikeradar.com/forums/viewtopic.php? ... t=12842777

I'd take a look at the Pivot Mach 5.7 if your budget allows (which it seems it does):

At 5.2 lbs, they don't come much lighter.0 -
I'm pro Ibis... well because I've got one and its soooo much better than my Orange Five and Lapierre Zesty. The guys I bought mine from have now build this website, so you can custom build a Ibis HD or Santa Cruz Nomad. They are still working on it, but I think it is already great.

I did that with the SB66 after my Spicy snapped. No regrets so far, about five months later.0

Snapped a spicy. Yeh I looked at a Yeti, I've always been a fan. Anyone tried the Bos Deville forks?0

I know its priced a bit high, but the newer Meta SX is llllllllooovely.

I'm a fan of the Mondrakers and ride a Dune R, a more DH orientated 160 bike but still pedals up fine. Good for more aggressive riders. Ridden alu Nomad it was a good bike but a bit more XC in its geometry and feel, but fully capable all rounder.
Have a think because the various AM builds tend to have leanings to either feeling a bit heavier and DH orientated or more XC leanings and I think its really important to know which you lean more too before you go out and start buying.
People on this forum have a tendency to instantly think light is best, which is a leaning towards strong XC origins which while not wrong for most people is not right for all, say like myself.0 -
But light doesn't always mean weak - but as you say, need to look at the individual bike.0
