Replacing Seatpost

Finally getting round to replacing my seat post it wore out ages ago just always got put off. Never had to do it before though so I don't know what to look for in the replacement. The existing is a Giant A3 post, I've heard for bigger riders (18 st) a double bolt post is better? Not looking to spend a fortune but willing to pay for something that won't break.

Bontrager do some really good, lightweight posts.... I'm a similar weight to you and my only advice is stay away from carbon... Otherwise don't need to spend a fortune unless you want a flashy brand, lightweight and trick looking...Ibis Mojo HD 2011 www.bikeradar.com/forums/viewtopic.php? ... t=12842777

Although they are expensive, Thopson Elite are the nuts....!!! Especially for the heavier rider. I have snapped a couple of other seatposts in the past, and a 10 mile bike ride back to the car with no seat post is very painful....!!!! It gives your calves a good work out though....!!!

Cheaper and better posts than Thomson IMO:

Though don't know what size you want.0 -
Most common size for Giant's is 31.6mm, but check first (I've had three, all 31.6!)
I currently have a 31.6mm Bontrager going spare, but it needs a new top bolt first.

Personally, I'd agree with this... They are strong, reasonably light and great quality.
I have a 31.6 Set Back (bent at the top) in 410mm black, posted £45 if interested ;0)Ibis Mojo HD 2011 www.bikeradar.com/forums/viewtopic.php? ... t=12842777

I'd buy a Thomson or a Syntace if you arent bothered about the weight. Both a fairly light anyway, but very strong. The Syntace offers a wider variety of saddle positions that the Thomson though.
I wouldnt pay £45 for a 2nd hand Thomson. They can usually be had for £35 (think the last one I bought 2nd hand was £30)0 -
Cheerz I'll have a look when I'm home to measure my seatpost. Not looking for second hand parts been bitten before so i stick to new parts only now. What would you say about the single or double bolt arguement? Are singles up to the job?0

A double spreads the load, but they are usually smaller bolts - the singles are generally larger, so i the end little difference.0
