I am looking forward to this film in a way I can't remember since being a little kid.

The books are absolutely fantastic and from what I've seen of the film they have really captured the atmosphere.
Looks like we're getting a babysitter and doing a late night showing with VIP seats. I am so excited I feel like a big kid.

Sorry, can't resist sharing.

it was on yahoo just the other day about stanley tucci not having a clue what the story was about - is it complicated to follow. Is our italian american friend right or is he being a bit of a commuter?

Can't comment on the film yet but the books tell a simple story very well. The books are a trilogy. I'm not sure about the film though. There would be an awful lot to squeeze the whole story into one film.
I've not read any reviews or any info, I don't want to burst the bubble of excitement.

    Hunger Games < Battle Royale

I bet you. Battle Royale is way darker than this.

I hadn't heard of it until I saw the film advertised but then my teenage daughter said she's read all the books and couldn't wait for the film so I assumed it was going to be another teen movie in the mould of Twilight?

Don't get too excited. If it's anything like the vastly overrated Battle Royale, it will be no great shakes ...

Watched Battle Royale last night. In terms of concepts, the actual hunger games and the battle Royale are pretty much the same thing. However, The Hunger Games story is about much more than the games themselves. There is a story about how they came to be and the uprising against an oppressive regime.
Battle Royale simply does enough to introduce the concept and from therein is solely about how the battle develops.
As for the Twilight comparison, I expect the film probably will have teen following but it's not a love story. I'm no teen myself.

Either way, I doubt it will have as many memorable one-liners as your average Schwarzenneger classic!

"If it bleeds, we can kill it"
    "Get to the chopper!"
"There's something out there and it ain't no man - we're all gonna die"
    "You're one ugly motherf*kcker!"
    - Predator

*bonus point for spotting the line Arnie didn't say :)

What do I ride? Now that's an Enigma!

Didn't disappoint. Some of the more subtle plot themes from the book get a little lost but a very good film imho. Probably have to wait a year for the second one now.

Was the 'There's something out there' line not said by the Red Indian/Native American chap?
