Seized up gear shifter

Hi All

I was cycling along as normal today and suddenly my rear gear sifter just seized up and left me unable to get off smallest gear.
I have now removed shifter and it still won't budge, it's as if something is stopping the mechanism moving in side. I have taken it apart as much as I dare (last time I went to far, removed the spring and couldn't get it back!) but nothing looks wrong.

Has anyone got any ideas?

Thanks

Nick

    Does the mech move freely?

Replace the inner and outer cables.

The mech is fine. It's nothing to do with the mech or the cables, the problem is with the shifter itself. The levers move a little but they cannot get the shifter to move through the gears (as it were, the shifter is, like I said, not atached at the moment).

I have seen several of these lately and there was nothing wrong with the cables or mech either. The shifter had broken. Easy to replace or drop into you LBS.
