Cateye Wireless - Sensor Issues

I recently bought a brand new Cateye Velo Wireless Computer however I cannot get it to work. I set it up following the instructions and fitted the computer on the stem. I have tried the sensor and magnet at various points on the spoke / fork, but nothing. The instructions state that the distance between the sensor and magnet should be 5mm but this seems impossible at any point. My bike is a Giant Defy.

Anyone got any photos of where they have their sensor / magnet? Any other thoughts?

  • Have you placed the magnet to line up with the contact zone on the senor it should be marked on the inside face of the sensor...Check the batteries are in the right way,,,try spinning the front wheel and just turn the sensor towards the spinning magnet...I place my magnet appox 50mm down from the inside of the rim i.e. spoke nipple

The 5mm MAX gap is very important, you need to have the battery cap - on the sensor - facing outwards and the sensor part is at the top of the sensor body, its a small indent.
as you ve got 70cm to play with, you can perhaps plc the sensor nearer to the hub to reduce the gap to the magnet, to reduce the gap further, you twist the sensor body inwards towards the spokes, it will work even at an extreme angle to the fork leg - on my GFs mtb, its at 90' to fork leg.
Make sure the magnet is magnetised but other than this, you may have a faulty unit/flat batteries?

Some sensor mounts are mtb or road bike specific. have you got the right one on?
