I haven't posted up a race report in a while, but my recent brushes with (very) minor triumph and near disaster may amuse if you're maxed out on non-stop glory in the British pro ranks...

I've done a few of late, sadly for various reasons nothing much has come of them, but its all promising stuff for next season where I'm going to put a concerted effort in to get to 1st cat. Although being told by a fellow rider that you don't look like a road rider isn't ideal haha...Blog on my first and now second season of proper riding/racing - www.firstseasonracing.com0

Hillingdon 3/4 - 22/08/12
Quick report:
Right this being only my third race and not having raced since the start of June I thought I would have a midweek race this week instead of the chain gang before 3 weeks of Saturday races.
Just as we started it started to rain which was nice along side a horrid SW wind. The pace was fairly slow the first 3-4 laps and I just sat in the bunch to get a feel for it again.
It slowly got faster so thought I would move upto the top 15 where I spend another 4-5 laps where the pace really seemed to be lifted and things started to get really strung out to single file with some fast laps in the first 10-15 places and I worked my way upto the top 5-7. It was like this for a couple more laps and tried to do some work on the front to keep the pace up but felt I would have blown up if I carried on with that wind for much longer so had to drop back into the main group for a bit for a breather.
Then basically for the last 1/4 of the race the pace seemed to drop a bit. I was in a good position when the final lap came (10-12th) but was cut up going into the first corner so had to do some offroading onto the grass to avoid getting hit but lost about 10 places - 15 places so did'nt bother going all out in the sprint but did manage to gain a few places back. Not sure of placing though.
Overall I'm pretty happy with how I felt in the race considering I haven't raced for a while so roll on Saturday, also did my fastest laps within this race with a couple of 2:01's @ 28.7mph so the pace we defiantly higher than a 4's only.

Got my 3rd Cat in my 3rd 4th Cat race.
Race was pretty damn dull though compared to the 3/4 race on Tuesday and hell of alot slower with noone apart from a few guys wanting to take turns on the front. Weather wise was dry at the start but super windy throughout which slowed things down a little but still overall the pace was low.
As the 5 lap board came up the biggest thunderstorm I have seen for a long while started, with loads and loads of standing water everywhere. As we came round onto the last lap I moved up to 2nd on the back straight and then gave it my all as we entered the second from last corner about 500 meters from the line (a little early but felt it was best considering how bad the conditions I just wanted to stay safe) and only just got pipped on the line for 3rd (must have followed my wheel) the winner was 3-4 bike lengths in front.0 -

Had my last race of what has been a pretty successful season yesterday with the duo normand 2up tt. I did it with a team mate who i train with quite often, we were pretty well matched and did 1hr 16.28 I cramped up on some of the downhill sections which is strange as a rarely cramp but other than that i don't think we could have gone much fast and we had the faster time of all the riders that went from my club. However it was still 11 minutes behind Tuft and Durbridge who won for Greenedge. It is insane how fast they are.
Highlights of my season have been winning a 2,3 crit at Hillingdon, coming 2nd to a team mate there in a 3rd cat a few weeks late. Coming 2nd in a 3rd cat and 4th in a 2,3 cat french races. Then 2nd to full time Belgian based Dan Pattan in a road race in Jersey. Then on the tt side i got pbs in 25, 10 and 5 miles.0 -
It ain't been pretty, but after two years and almost 40 races I have finally, finally become a 3rd Cat.
