Subway Vs Revolution Streetfinder

Hi,
I am not new to commuting by bike but I am used to the reasonably jargon free land of Fixed-Gears, so feel a bit clueless.
I have decided that I want to get a Hybrid bike for below £300 as an alternative to my Langster and to offer a way of pootling round canal paths etc./eventually transporting my daughter to nursery. A couple of bikes have caught my eye but some advice would be appreciated.
Halfords currently have the Subway 2012 Lmd Edition for £199:

Edinburgh Bike Co-op have the Revolution Streetfinder 2011 for £224:

Its going to be used mainly for a short commute and spins to the shops, jaunts round Richmond Park and the Thames Path from time to time.
I had planned on fitting panniers/mudguards so would have to factor this in to the Subway price, but other than that I am not sure what to do. I can go test a Subway but there are no EBC shops near me (West London).
Gut instincts? Tried and tested sage advice? Better alternatives?
Thanks!

The Streetfinder looks pretty poor - ok, comes with a full compliment of guards and racks, but is very heavy and has low specced parts such as the 6 speed freewheel and steel bars.
The Subway has some better kit, will be lighter, but was never £375, Halfords are in fantasy land with that one! At £200 is on the ball, but...
I'd spend the budget on this:

Another Revolution, but far better than the other. Some really nice parts there, good weight: need to add racks and stuff, but this is a classic and highly regarded 'sporty' hybrid, and well worth the extra over the others.0 -
Hi I have owned the Subway 1 for a few years and use it as a commuter to work. I have to say its been great. The one you are looking at looks even better and for £199 you cant go wrong. I have recently bought a langster but i am sure the subway will come out when the weather turns nasty!0
