Hi all,

Ive done follow the dog three times now, getting more confident on the bike. Thinking of extending to do the monkey trail tomorrow but just wondering if I will be ok on it. Know its a hard question to answer but the description on the chase trails website seems to imply that the monkey trail is quite a bit more technical than the dog alone and I really dont know what to expect.

Thanks

    Hi
The monkey trail has got a lot more climbing than the dog but I don't think it's much harder than the dog just has a few black bits that if you want you can just ride round and do the red. You won't regret having a go :D

Go for it, you should be fine, it's not massively technical at all, the flat/down bits are faster than the dog, the climbs are a bit annoying at times but fairly easy. Just take bits at your own pace and ride within your comfort zone the first time to build your confidence.
  • No harder than the dog, more climbing and tighter switch backs. The downhill sections ate worth the climbing though.
  • i had a go today, loved it! my legs were totally f*ked by the time I got back to the dog trail though and I ran out of drink too by the time finished the monkey. top section was closed off for maintenance, so didn't do the whole trail but got round dog + monkey in 2hrs 50 mins (inclusive of rest stops) pretty pleased with that as a first go. didn't do black routes.

Struggled with the rock garden bits the most, foot down on several occasions and holding rear brake to try and slow myself down but bike just skidding down hill! Was fun tho.
  • i went round today too. the bit thats roped off isnt that good anyway so not missing much.

rock gardens are tough and i only do the first one at the moment, just got to sit back and avoid using the brakes too much as its too easy to lock up.
  • Also have to say that the 2 ladies loitering at the top of the warewolf drop were very easy on the eye. Isnt it great riding behind a girl in shorts! I'm very pleased that I didn't go ar$e over head on the warewolf that would have been embarrassing.

I dont understand the fascination with werewolf drop, hordes of people usually hang around it watching others go down it and usually right in the way of the exit, idiots.

It's not difficult by any means.

The number of times I've been wanting to go down and people can't seem to comprehend that once I'm down I'll be moving and need to go somewhere, seriously when they walk down, turn around and stop 3 feet away from the bottom WTF!!!. I tried explaining to someone once that it's not difficult but that they needed to move otherwise they'd be hit. The bike won't just get to the bottom. Magically stop, turn on a dime and carry on. In the end I just went down and he soon jumped out the way, moron. If you don't want to ride it or can't that's fair enough, but have some common sense on the trail FFS.

But yep much less interesting than when they first put it in, it actually slightly resembled a drop then, now it's more of a gentle roll down some rocks to a sharp right hand corner

oh man, this bugs the hell out of me

i was there yesterday morning and there were a group of riders that kept blocking the entrances to the trails, giving you dodgy looks as you pick your way through them

    tres annoying

Yeah i hate this too, don't really have the problem too often tbh as i tend to hit the trails early, usually after a night shift haha
