700x32 Slicks with puncture resistance

Evening all,

Looking to change tyres from some very heavy (780g) Conti Double Fighters that came on my hybrid, to some lighter road tyres.

My ideal tyre would be something like the folding Panaracer pasela in a 700x32c...but completely slick!

Schwalbe do the Ultremo ZX in a 28, but that's almost 80 quid for 2 tyres that don't seem to have been proven in terms of durability yet, and pehaps a little too thin for my commute with loaded panniers.

At weekends the panniers and rack come off, hence the wish for a fast 'ish slick.

So, my question is, why are there so few slicks out there . Even the gatorskins only go to a 25 in the folding style, which is ideally what I want. The lighter the better.

Spent most of the day searching the net for something that doesn't seem to exist, a true slick 700X32 tyre :(

I've just bought Panaracer RiBMo PT tyres for my Pashley (in 26x1.75 but I see they're available in 700x32 too). They're not completely slick but a lot slicker than the Pasela. I haven't fitted them yet (a job for tomorrow hopefully) so can't say how good/bad/indifferent they ride yet. They will replace M+ so I'm hoping to notice quite a difference!

  • Panaracer RibMo? I use 25mm Conti Ultra Gatorskins on the fixed with loaded panniers for commuting, and 32mm Panaracer TServ's on the the tourer which zooms along even if its 30lbs unladen!

Do you not find the 25's a bit harsh for commuting? Half of my route is promenade so lovely surface to cycle on, but the other half is a mix of rough tarmac and footpath that even my current 37mm tyres fail to soften out much.
  • MTFU? The 25's are fine, I ride a rough, potholed farm track thats meant to be part of the national cycle route but its knackered from farm vehicles and horses using it all the time. Soft knees and soft elbows will take the sting out of most of it.

Sounds like you need an MTB not a fixed with 25's!

Marathon Plus. I tried durano plus and the east lancs cycle path beat them so I have now installed marathon plus tyres. My durano plus tyres (26) were full of glass that normal tyres would have been shredded with.
