Carbon Seatpost big advantage over alloy?

Hi guys,

The bike I commute on snapped the seatpost yesterday, so Im going to need a new one.

I am tempted just to buy the cheapest seatpost to get my bike rideable again, however I am tempted to move the aluminium stock seatpost from my Spesh Allez onto this bike and buy a nicer carbon fibre seatpost (something like the FSA SLK) for my Allez.

I was wondering would this make any difference at all to my Allez, or would I just be wasting my money?

Im not fussed about the weight saving advantage of the seatpost, more things like comfort and durability.

Cheers for any advice

All male jewellery really, it might look bling. we all want save 50g on a seatpost, then hang 500g of tools from it! Still I suppose there are much less wholesome things we could be buying!

So you dont think it would be worth it?

As I said, im not worried about saving a few grams, more the comfort value.

You'll probably find it a bit more comfortable as the carbon will dampen some of the road buzz.

Probably not worth it, aren't most of the fsa seatposts alloy wrapped in carbon?

Go on Chain Reaction and by a Tioga Alloy one or such like for £10-15. I doubt if you'll notice thedifference.

Yeah I replaced a carbon zertz specialized seatpost with a Thomson alloy on my aluminium road bike. Did not notice any difference and I have piece of mind that I can't weaken it by tightening too hard.
