So I went to my lbs today and have fallen in love with the rock hopper however my lbs is also a agent for Merida and the agent spoke about the big nine which is a 29er so I was just thinking what do you guys know about Merida and how does this stack up against the rhop here are the specs

http://www.merida-bikes.com/en_gb/bike/ ... TFS+300-D+

I have seen a lot about 29ers but I am a complete beginner and was looking at a good starter bike and when needed had a good base for upgrades I originally set on a voodoo hoodoo but my nearest halfords is 30 miles away so decided to shop a little closer to home.

Any advice appreciated

if there in the same shop, try them both, look pretty similar to be fair, but then merida do build the frames for specialized, in fact they own "if i'm correct" 19% of the specialized company

As chez said - likely to be similiar build qualities.

I guess the question is - do you want a 29er? Try and find out.

If I were buying a hard tail XC bike now I'd probably be going for a 29er - I'd imagine it'd be more comfortable and better on the fly in most situations - but I've not tried yet!
