Difference between XT rear mech models (M771 / M772 etc)

I need to get myself a new rear mech after knackering the one on my Remedy, but no idea of the difference between the different models (M771, M772 etc) whether it will make a difference, and which one I need...can anyone guide me in the right direction?? The 772 look most similar though

771 is the old style, while 772 is shadow. Assuming you want a 9spd then either is fine, my personal preference would be the 772, although some people complain they don't last as well as the 771. If your bike has a 772 already, the cable routing would be shorter for that, and so it might not quite fit a 771 as that needs a longer outer (albeit only 2inches or so)

You also need to make sure you get the right cage length for your gears. Long is probably whats on there, but you might get away with a short if your running 1x9.

yeah its a long cage on the remedy..thanks for the advice. Mine is defo a shadow one and so must be as I suspected the 772
