Chondromalacia

Been to see a Physio this week about my aching knee ,after a thorough examination he concluded that it was Chondromalacia. He said he could feel the contact in my knee and although it wasnt a severe case it was good that I had come to see him !!
He said that as my knee has never locked out and isnt overly noisy or painful that I should continue to Cycle and also do some leg lifts (dips and circles) with ankle weights on.He said that I had a quad strength inbalance on that side due to sub conciously protecting my knee.He also told me to ice it after riding and walk around at work for an hour a day with the ankle weight on if possible.
These measures should improve the pain he said.
Anyway the question is ,has anyone else had this diagnosis and continued to ride and did the excersizes help ???
I am 37 and want to cycle well into my 70's if possible :)

I had pain behind my kneecap last week after taking up running again. I couldn't walk downstairs for the pain but could still cycle the next day. A week later I can still feel it a bit and I'm not going to run again until its 100%.
