Hi
I am upgrading my crank set and and moving from a SRAM 7 speed cassette and want to pop a 10 speed SLX cassette on there, are wheels specific for cassettes? Or are the fittings the same accross the board?
PS my rear hub is a Forged alloy, double sealed, ground race, steel QR, cassette, 32h (standard hardrock disc 2010)
Thanks

If it is a normal 8/9/10spd fitting (shimano spline) then yes I will fit.
Don't forget the 10spd shifters and mechs that you will need to get it working."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

But the OP mentioned 7 speed. Didn't the freehub change with the move from 7 to 8 speed, or is my memory failing me in my old age.
Cheers,

Yeah it's 7 speed (just been and counted)
Also as you seem like bike savy types...
With the front mech i currently have a Shimano Altus, 34.9mm clamp on there (link below)

With the new front SLX front mech I just want to make sure I am ordering the right one, the correct one would be...

As its coming all the way from Germany I just want to get it right!0 -
Actual 7 speed freehubs are rare, very likely Spesh are using an 8/9/10 with a 4.5mm spacer.
Check for the spacer ;-)0 -

If it s a 7dpd body or even a 7spd spin on lock then there are Los of other issues that come to play.
Like I said "If it is a normal 8/9/10spd body....""Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

I need it all in laymens terms sadly, this spacer. Is it a piece of metal bewteen the cassette and the wheel?
If so I cant see anything significant there, if anything it looks like theres no way 3 more 'rings' or whatever you call them would fit bewteen the wheel and frame
Also how can i tell if its a normal body? Are the hubs a certain width?0 -
Yep, between the wheel and cassette.
The 3 rings are not designed to fit into the space - 8/9/10 speed cogs are narrower and closer together through the entire structure.0 -

Ah right, good point, I was assuming that it was like my 20 year old Specialized that really does have a 7 speed hub. If it's newer then I'm sure you are right and it's much more likely that they just stuck a 7 speed cassette on an 8 speed freehub (with a spacer).
As you were

Or if you want some reading try Sheldons pages."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

None of your links work I am afraid.0

Yes, will be the correct mech for your frame.0

My spesh Hardrock disc 2010 had a 7 speed body.no spacers.
I had to change the back wheel to go 9 speed. (good excuse for a new wheel set )0 -
Rightio new wheels it is. I dont want to break the bank so what are your thoughts on
A set of Mavic Cross rides? The weight looks decent, low compared to most and has decent reviews

140 quid if you get them from Germany, which seems a good deal to me0 -
They are decent enough for the money, but are cheaper alternatives such as:

Crossride cheaper at Merlin too!0 -
Hmm they look pretty good, but sadly I know even less about wheels than cranksets! All I know is that I need QR fittings and 6 bolt locks for the roters I have. I have spotted these however...

Anyone speak a bit of German and know if they are QR?0 -

Have you taken this into account, I knows that times is hard but can your LBS do free fitting, spec'ing up what you need right in the first place?...
The wheels that you quote in the link are okay, but as someone has said, Hope's (sealed cartridge) are less maintenance needy and you buy from the UK. My LBS does Hope hoops and sells them by the bucket load.
But to answer your question, yes they are QR and if you use a free translation site, you can get a grasp of what the description say's... :0)Ibis Mojo HD 2011 www.bikeradar.com/forums/viewtopic.php? ... t=12842777

I don't think he is going to get Hope wheels for £140! Or anywhere near.
If you must get cartridge bearings:

Not light though.
I'd also look at this:

Full Deore 10 speed groupset, with wheels and brakes for £300.0
