headset recommendations

It will soon be time to replace my headset on my 2009 Orange Apline and I am looking for advice on best buys.
It's currently fitted with a chisel headset with standard bearing but after fitting a cane creek s3 on my hardtail I can see the benefit of cartridge bearings.
The Alpine is standard 1 1/8 and is used for average riding, nothing too extreme but as I'm getting into more DH riding I will want it to be able to take the hammering.
I've heard the Chris Kings are the business but before I shell out loads on one of these what are the best options for this type of bike and riding. Nukeproof / FSA / cane creek etc
Suggestions please
Cheers
Mark
