Plan well before a ride, like fill the CamelBak the night before, give the bike a check over etc. The preparation motivates one to ride.
Throw the bike into/onto the car
Go out and ride.. time yourself on the route/loop, be disappointed and convince yourself you can do better
Return home feeling knackered and knowing that today's ride has been a good one..
Repeat the steps above...0 -
im in the same boat, supposed to be going out on saturday, haven't touched the bike in about 3weeks now, just don't feel motivated to go do it, perhaps i should watch some bike related p0rn like 3MG or Rampage to get me in the mood0
-
Mmmm, stagnant water, that makes me want to ride more :-)
I'd say don't force yourself. Give it a chance, you'll want to ride again. No point making yourself do something you don't want to.
Alternatively, try riding new places to bring a bit of variety in.0 -
Normally when i get bored it's because i ahven't pushed my riding enough.
Now for some these means fitness but for me no, fitness is nice but nothing to special beyond a point.
Im talking techinically pushing my riding, alot of riders i meet do not push themselves techincally and this i think can cause riding to becaome boring and stagnent. so in other words go out ride to fast and crash a bit find the edge of your skills and push them a bit.

Give it a month, wait until it's warmer in the morning and enjoy the sun on your face, feeling fresh and inspired...
... then cack it on the first harsh climb and realise that sitting around feeling uninspired for the best part of two months has let your conditioning go to sh*t.0 -
Well im now a fair bit more inspired and motivated to go ride, spent a good while cleaning & fettling the bike and sorting my kit out0
-
Watch a few bike dvd's, sure fire way. Or enter a race or enduro or something to give you a goal ;-)0

Just give me your bike, then I'll post videos of me riding it, and you'll feel jealous and want it back. But you won't get it back because I'll give it to a Nottingham Policeman as a bit of payment to him not arresting me for stalking. It takes as much courage to have tried and failed as it does to have tried and succeeded.

Plan to ride with friends...
Once you've agree 'next Wednesday, OK?' you'll make the effort to get out even if it's raining that night. Best of all your friends will be out too just because they agreed to it. No one will have 'wanted' to go out that evening, but after the first 15mins everyone will be having a good time even if the weather is crap...
... or you will all be miserable together, and just ride straight to the pub.Vitus Sentier VR+ (2018) GT Grade AL 105 (2016)

Most people on here have no friends. Which is why they are on here. Apparently.

Sell your bloody xbox! If you have no modern warfare to play, you're more inclined to get outside0

Is this something to do with your new 50" 3D TV? have you found a 3D porn channel, and the reason you cant ride is your right arm is so pumped it cant bend?0 -
It's the prep that puts me off. Just one day sling your bike in the car and go ride!0

Why involve the car, just ride out your door!0

HA, I've only had the tv a week, lost interest in riding ages ago, before I got the xbox (seem to be getting bored of that as well :P ). At first I was enjoying time off the bike but now it just seems different.
maybe it has something to do with my new (not so new these days) local trails. while they're faster, it's basically all blue so now it's just a case of faster or um faster.
also not a fan of leigh woods, it feels too open now.
maybe I'll find a new way to enjoy riding the bike, that day isn't today...0 -

DH is not for me....0 -
When I lived down that way, I used to sit with the OS maps and build routes that took in as many bridleways and byways as possible. Found some cracking routes using Keynsham as the start and finish - the lanes there were rocky with big cobbles - down was good - up was a b*tch of a challenge. Then there were circuits from Priddy - a lot muddier and greasy. Burrington Coombe was a good spot to start from, too.
Found some great spots for dumping bodies. 8)How would I write my own epitaph? With a crayon - I'm not allowed anything I can sharpen to a sustainable point.

DH is not for me....
There are many levels of DH, and technically ranging. So don't talk rubbish a bit of Dh is suitable to all riders, it improves peoples riding by leaps and bounds. And from what you've mostly been saying you seem to be finding the smooth dummed trails to be totally dull. well then take a step up. Or just quit riding and sell your bike so we can move on0 -

Or perhaps I've tried DH and didn't find it to my liking.
I'll give the bike a clean, stick new brakes on, take it for an epic spin and see if I enjoy it.0 -
Agree with some of these points, cleaning the bike up started things off then entering an enduro really started to get me taking food a bit more seriously as well as getting out more.
That said, this is the crudcatcher so I'd also suggest hiding in the bushes nearby a ladies mtb training course, a classic if I do say so :P0 -
